About

About Me

Hi there! My name is Katherine and I am passionate about helping people through the crazy journey that we call life. I invest in helping clients understand the power of their own healing, tapping into their inner strengths, and in building trust with their true self. Throughout my years of providing therapy, I have been thankful to be a part of the healing journey for clients who have struggled through complex trauma, who have experienced complex family and relationship dynamics, and who have struggled with social stigmas that impact diagnoses such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and more.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Georgia and I earned my Masters of Family Therapy degree from Mercer University- School of Medicine in 2018. I have specific interests in working with LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent clients, adolescents, providing trauma focused care, and providing couples therapy.

I am currently accepting clients through self- pay, and accepting Aetna, Cigna, Optum, and United Healthcare insurance. For more information about scheduling and using your insurance plan, please visit my Alma profile to schedule a consultation.

For all other clients, please use the "Book a Consultation" button, or call 678-381-7399 to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation with me. Thanks!

Services

I provide the following psychotherapy services listed below:

Psychologist Session

Initial Intake

After you are scheduled with me, our first appointment will be an initial intake session where I gather more information about you such as background history, mental health history and symptoms, family history, medical history, a review of presenting problems, and more. The session typically goes over a treatment plan at the end of session to determine what the course of therapy treatment may be. After this, further appointments may be scheduled or referrals will be provided as needed.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy sessions typically last for 50-60 minutes, and each session is focused on addressing your treatment goals and helping you grow towards the change you are looking for. The therapeutic process can also take time, and building the therapeutic alliance (relationship between therapist and client) is most important at the beginning of therapy sessions.

Therapy

Couples Therapy &
Family Therapy

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am specialized in evidence based therapy modalities that aim to treat family conflict and issues and address concerns that couples may face. Couples therapy sessions typically last 50-60 minutes, while family therapy sessions typically last for 60-90 minutes. Each client is an important part of the process when it comes to couples therapy and family therapy, and goals and treatment are discussed with all parties involved.

Treatment

Specializing in Trauma Focused Care, Anxiety, Neurodivergence, LGBTQ+ Affirmative Care, and more

Trauma Focused Care
Anxiety
Neurodivergent Affirming Therapy

At my practice, I value helping my clients feel safe and I believe that this is essential for starting to heal from trauma related concerns. I have experience in providing trauma focused care throughout my 7+ years of being a therapist and I practice from a compassionate and humanistic stance when addressing trauma in therapy.

Anxiety is one of the most diagnosed mental health conditions in the United States and impacts millions of people daily. I have experience in treating a wide range of anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and more. I implement therapy treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems to help in alleviating symptoms and to assist my clients in learning about what helps them in managing anxiety over the long term.

LGBTQ+  Affirmative Care

One of my passions as a therapist is being a strong ally to the LGBTQ+ community and this is near and dear to my heart. As someone who has several loved ones in my life who identify as LGBTQ+, I recognize that having support in working through the societal stigmas that affect the community daily is so important. As mentioned above, I practice from a compassion based and evidence-based approach when talking about stressors that affect the LGBTQ+ community.

Couples Therapy

I have extensive experience in providing couples therapy throughout my career and have helped many couples in healing their relationship through learning effective communication skills, increasing intimacy, and making steps to build trust and commitment again. I have also helped couples through separation and divorce while coaching them through ways to build healthier communication and boundaries. I utilize an attachment based approach with a combination of Gottman Couples Therapy or Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy when seeing couples therapy clients.

In our society, dealing with the social stigmas against neurodivergence can be very challenging. I have learned so much in the past 3 years about neurodivergence from my clients and in my continuing education opportunities. I strive to provide affirming therapy that helps my neurodivergent clients explore their strengths and true qualities that come from their neurodivergence. My therapy stance is person centered and I aim to help in addressing concerns from symptoms of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder as well to help clients in being their authentic selves and having a life worth celebrating.

Teen Therapy

I absolutely enjoy seeing teens for therapy and have built significant therapeutic alliances with my teen clients throughout my time of being a therapist. When seeing teens, I treat a wide variety of presenting concerns and I also like to incorporate creative interventions such as drawing, writing, music, and more when I feel that it may help with engagement and building healthy coping skills. I do value collaborating with parents/caregivers on what can best help their teen and providing family therapy if needed to help through the treatment process.
